THE ECSTATIC MUSIC OF ALICE COLTRANE TURIYASANGITANANDA (USA) performed by the Sai Anantam Ashram Singers

One of the most respected and venerated musicians of the 20th century, Alice Coltrane was a pianist, composer, spiritual leader, and the wife of equally legendary John Coltrane, saxophonist and jazz icon.

In the wake of her husband's death in 1967, Coltrane's grief grew so extreme that hallucinations of unconsciousness led her to seek salvation in the Hindu tradition. Eventually opening her own ashram, her spiritual practice was firmly rooted in the transcendental realms of deeply spiritual music, spanning fields of jazz, eastern tradition, improvisation and extended chanting. In 1967, Alice recorded four cassette tapes over a decade that mingled the gospel music of her Detroit upbringing with the Indian devotional songs of her late life. Long available only through her ashram, these rare glimpses into a fascinating soul are only now being opened up to the outside world by David Byrne's Luaka Bop label, with the singers of Alice Coltrane's Sai Anantam ashram carrying on her astonishing legacy in a series of selected exclusive concerts around the world, including the premiere at Supersense as a landmark event on the festival’s Saturday night.

Do not miss this extraordinary, unrepeatable concert of deep devotional and spiritual music from one of the great composers of our time.
